Why should I?
They've retired short story books.
Addy's cape island dress.
Samantha's travelling outfit.
What is so good about THAT?

This is getting annoying.

The short storys are still on the Pleasant Company Publication web site.
Has anyone actually contacted AG to find out about the Cape Island and Samantha's travel outfit ?

Once they retire something, do they present new items which are similar?

The only advice I can give on this is if you see an outfit you want, get it asap so when it is retired you won't have to worry about not having the outfit.

I agree with AGfanatic, just buy the items you want and let the others go. Since missing out on the S'mores set, I realize I have to take the chance that anything I want may be retired or sell out when I least expect it. That's business.
I remember when AG first started retiring things. When Felicity's trunk and Josefina's farm went on sale, we thought AG was going to begin putting all their items on sale. We didn't know that "sale"="retire". So then when sale items disappeared and never came back, we were very confused and upset. It took us a while to realize all companies must change their inventory now and then to maintain a high level of sales. Now that Felicity's Noah's Ark is back, maybe Josefina's farm will come back too.

Personally, I've always wondered how the short stories could be profitable for AG. I don't think I've ever bought one at full price. There are a few we don't have, but we could probably live without the others.

Do you guys think it is a good idea to have a sticky with possible retirements? For example, if the Ready for Fun Outfit is half price at the Outlet, it will be posted to give everyone a heads-up.

Seems like that is information that would fit right in with the status check sticky.
As for the short stories- I agree. I don't think they are worth their full price.

It has been suggested that perhaps AG will republish the short stories in one volume per doll. I'd really like that. I didn't buy them because although I like them, I don't like buying all those little books and then having to store them all. Hopefully, AG will consider publishing them in larger volumes now that they have a bunch per doll.
I called CS yesterday about Sam's Traveling Outfit and they said it was canceled and you can no longer order it. She could be mistaken, but the rep checked with other reps for the answer to my question. If you want it, it is still available at AGP Chicago as of yesterday and it may be available at NY (didn't check since I got it from Chicago). I don't know about the Cape Island dress because I already had that one.
It is obvious after the past few years that we should treat all non-"core" outfits and accessories (those not featured in the six original books and collection) as limited edition items, because they typically only have been selling them a few years and then retiring them to make way for more. I just buy whatever ones I like within a one year period of their introduction now so I'm safe. It is a bit annoying and delays my collecting the "core" collection items, but Mattel has shown it could really care less what we all say about the matter.
